Fit After Fifty

I’m fifty now and I decided that it was time to shape up. Funny thing was that I spent months doing daily 2 mile walks and lifting light weights twice a week and I lost no weight and didn’t appear to be shaping up at all. Bummer!

Now I had been led to believe that by the time you reach 40, much less 50, you probably are going to have to approach fitness with a ‘let’s do it moderately’ attitude. Obviously this was not working for me. I mean my resting pulse rate was low and other health factors looked good but there I was lugging a bunch of fat around my middle which didn’t look good and isn’t healthy in the long run.

So I made a change and went for intense workouts. Loads of push ups and, eventually, some pull ups as well as weight lifting and high intensity (but not typically high impact) cardio. And you know what? I lost weight – most of it around my gut where I needed it. I look great and feel great.

So fit after fifty is possible. Just don’t think you have to approach it like an old person.
